The Coalition's
Green Home & Building Tour and Home Show kicked off on Friday
evening, October 1st, with a reception at St. Andrew’s Episcopal
Church Fellowship Hall located at 409 Topa Topa Dr., Ojai.
People met there from 5:30 p.m. till 7:30 to sip Ojai's own organic
Casa Barranca wines and taste local organic produce, transformed
into delectable light bites by Chef Terri. Talented musicians
created just the right ambience for this gathering.
The reception gave us an opportunity to mingle with old friends and
new. The evening's program featured Ventura city manager Rick
Cole, called "one of Southern California's most visionary planning
thinkers" by the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Cole serves on several
committees, one being the Sustainable Communities Committee of the
International City/County Managers Association, and one of his key
focuses is Smart Growth - promoting sustainable prosperity and
quality of life. Joining Mr. Cole was Save Open Space and
Agricultural Resources (SOAR) co-founder and County Supervisor Steve
Bennett, who presented the tour site owners with plaques in
appreciation of their leadership by example. The Los Angeles Times
also described Mr. Bennett as “perhaps the most influential local
politician” in Ventura County.
Attendees were cordially invited to join us for this relaxed, enjoyable
early-autumn evening while contributing financial support to the
Coalition's educational and advocacy efforts.
